Contrasting Styles in Menswear: Givenchy and Egonlab Showcase Collections in Paris

In the bustling city of Paris, two esteemed brands recently showcased their menswear collections, each with contrasting styles that left a lasting impression on the fashion scene. Givenchy presented a collection that exuded sophistication and elegance, while Egonlab showcased a rebellious and punk energy.

Givenchy, known for its Cafe Society chic, delivered a poised and impressive collection that received high praise from fashion editors. The show, which was designed by an in-house team with no specific designer taking a bow, featured French elongated tailoring with experimental touches. Standout pieces included uber high-waist suits in pale blue, double-breasted tuxedos with an extra central button, and stylish leather safari jackets with slant pockets. Coats and dusters adorned with horse tails were a nod to the popular trend seen in street style and couture. The collection also paid homage to the brand’s founder, Hubert de Givenchy, with a 1953 drawing of a cat featured on some designs, referencing the iconic feline from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. From jacquard shirts to embroidered Sahariennes, the collection showcased a blend of quaint and strong elements, ultimately captivating attendees and honoring Givenchy’s legacy.

In contrast, Egonlab defied convention with a collection exuding drama and attitude. Despite the teeming rain in Paris, designers Florentin Glémarec and Kévin Nompeix presented innovative silhouettes that showcased their immense talent and fresh perspective within menswear. The collection featured power-shoulder Eisenhower jackets with spike collars paired with billowing loon pants, as well as single-breasted tuxedo jackets with pinched waistlines combined with open silk shirts resembling scarves. Oversized jackets inspired by 80s power suits effortlessly hung on the models, accompanied by standout pieces such as a coppery vinyl great coat with meter-long fringes and a bleached-out degrade jean jacket and jeans, reminiscent of rockstar style. With their punk-inspired tailoring, Egonlab seamlessly blended transgressive dressing with their signature rebellious spirit.

Givenchy and Egonlab showcased the breadth of creativity in menswear in Paris. While Givenchy honored its heritage and reputation for elegance, Egonlab took risks and pushed boundaries with their punk-inspired collection. This contrast highlighted the diverse and exciting world of menswear and solidified Paris as a hotspot for innovation and artistic expression.
