Comité Colbert Publishes Inspirational Notebook Instead of Traditional CSR Report

The Comité Colbert, an organization representing the luxury industry, has chosen to publish an inspirational notebook instead of a traditional CSR report. In an interview with Bénédicte Epinay, General Delegate and CEO of Comité Colbert, she explains that the decision was made to inspire and share remarkable initiatives among its members. The notebook serves as a collaborative effort from the 90 French luxury houses and 17 cultural institutions that make up the Comité Colbert. It is not only a statement from the luxury industry but also a commitment to transparency for employees, consumers, and partners.

The objective of this common declaration is to express the shared values of the luxury industry and its commitment to CSR. Many of the houses within the Comité Colbert have already made commitments to their stakeholders, and CSR is becoming increasingly important in the sector. With a focus on natural materials, craftsmanship, and excellence, the luxury industry recognizes the need to protect and restore resources while promoting responsible practices. While the declaration does not produce a CSR report or specific commitments, it aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and serves as a unifying force for the industry.

Among the 17 SDGs, the luxury houses’ actions primarily focus on seven goals. These include quality education, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, industry innovation and infrastructure, responsible consumption and production, climate action, and life on land. The initiatives range from reducing carbon footprint and implementing eco-design to promoting diversity and inclusion within the industry. Luxury brands are taking individual and collective responsibility by making sustainable choices in their material sourcing, production processes, and employee practices.

Looking ahead, the Comité Colbert plans to gather the presidents, HR directors, and CSR directors of its member houses for a meeting at L’Ascenseur, a collective focused on equal opportunities. In addition to the inspirational notebook, a practical guide will be published to support the less mature houses in implementing CSR practices. The guide will serve as a resource for engagement and action, furthering the industry’s commitment to sustainable practices. These initiatives will be conducted in a spirit of mutual assistance, reflecting the unique collective nature of the Comité Colbert.
