Colombian Designer Esteban Cortázar Teams Up with Farfetch for 20th Anniversary Collection

Colombian designer Esteban Cortázar has teamed up with luxury e-commerce platform Farfetch to commemorate his brand’s 20th anniversary. Paying homage to his debut collection in 2002, Cortázar has crafted a nostalgic and sensual capsule collection that celebrates his two decades in the fashion world. The collection, which reflects the designer’s roots, was unveiled at a star-studded affair during Art Basel Miami Beach.

Drawing inspiration from his upbringing in Miami’s nightlife and clubbing scene, Cortázar’s collection exudes vibrancy and playfulness. Comprised of 14 flowing and bold designs, the capsule collection captures the essence of the 2000s era. It features iconic styles worn by influential celebrities like Paris Hilton, Ashanti, and Kim Cattrall from “Sex and the City.” Cortázar recognizes the current fashion world’s nostalgic yearning for the 2000s, making it the perfect time to release this collection.

The collection showcases trendy looks with low-cut necklines, cutouts, asymmetrical shapes, and bare shoulders or midriffs, paying homage to the sunny weather and TV shows of Latin America. Turquoise blue and bright yellow are the vibrant colors that punctuate the collection’s lively and dynamic aesthetic. From strapless silk dresses and satin skater skirts to silk chiffon backless mini-dresses and bandeau dresses, the range offers a diverse selection. Prices for these fashionable pieces range from 320 euros for a crop top to 1250 euros for a long draped dress.

In collaboration with Farfetch, Cortázar’s capsule collection forms part of their “Beat” program, an initiative aimed at reviving iconic garments or special collections through partnerships with designers. The exclusive collection has generated significant anticipation and was unveiled at a grand event during Art Basel Miami Beach at The Faena Theatre on November 30. Holli Rogers, Farfetch brand director, expressed her admiration for Esteban Cortázar, emphasizing that his vibrant designs represent pivotal moments in 2000s pop culture and have had a tremendous impact on the fashion industry as we know it today.

Having made his mark at a young age, Esteban Cortázar debuted at New York Fashion Week when he was only 17. Five years later, he became the head designer of French maison Emanuel Ungaro. During his two-year tenure at Ungaro, he presented his own brand’s collections in Paris. In 2019, Cortázar made the decision to stray from the traditional fashion week calendar to devote his attention to launching other projects and organizing pop-up events. Since then, he has collaborated with Desigual and created costumes for the New York City Ballet.

The collaboration between Esteban Cortázar and Farfetch for his brand’s 20th anniversary signifies the designer’s lasting influence on the fashion industry. The nostalgic and sensual capsule collection not only celebrates his two decades in the industry but also captures the essence of the 2000s. With its vibrant colors and trendy designs, the collection is a must-have for fashion enthusiasts eager to immerse themselves in the nostalgia of the 2000s. The partnership with Farfetch allows this collection to reach a wider audience, further cementing Cortázar’s position in the world of fashion.
