Coach has teamed up with American pop artist Tom Wesselmann to release an exclusive collection that pays homage to the shared legacies of American heritage and pop culture. The collection showcases Wesselmann’s famous artworks on Coach’s Rogue and Duffle bags, as well as on shearling jackets. Using printing and embroidery techniques with sequins, Coach has adorned its ‘Signature’ jacquard and heritage ‘Glovetanned’ leather with Wesselmann’s colorful graphic motifs, which include lips, flowers, and still lifes with oversized objects.
Stuart Vevers, the creative director of Coach, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting how both his collections and Wesselmann’s work draw inspiration from the extraordinary aspects of ordinary life and the universal references that unite us. Vevers described the collaboration as a sensory and joyful tribute to the pleasure Wesselmann found in the creative process. He also expressed his pride in working with Wesselmann’s family to bring the collection to life and his excitement in sharing the artist’s work with a new generation.
To launch the collection, Coach has rolled out a global campaign featuring models Hari Nef, Kai-Isaiah Jamal, and Manami Kinoshita, all captured by renowned photographer Juergen Teller. The campaign also includes an original poem written and recited by Jamal. In addition, Coach has created a digital experience where users can delve into the collection and gain further insights.
Starting Wednesday, fans of Coach and art enthusiasts can purchase pieces from the Tom Wesselmann collection at pop-up stores and through store takeovers worldwide. This collaboration offers an opportunity to own wearable art that combines Coach’s iconic designs with Wesselmann’s visually captivating and vibrant artworks.
