Ciara and The House of L, R & C: Advancing Sustainability in the Fashion Industry

Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Ciara recently shared her insights on sustainability at the United Nations Conscious Fashion and Lifestyle Network Annual Meeting. Accompanied by her husband, footballer Russell Wilson, and their brand group, The House of L, R & C, Ciara took part in a panel discussion to discuss the mission and values of their brand. The House of L, R & C stresses their commitment to minimizing their impact on the planet while making a significant impact on society.

The brand has already garnered recognition within the industry, having won two prestigious awards. Moreover, they donate three percent of their profits to the Why Not You Foundation, a non-profit organization established by Ciara and Wilson to support education, children’s health, and poverty alleviation.

Therese Hayes, the brand’s chief sustainability officer, outlined their holistic approach to sustainability, emphasizing that it is not limited to a specific department but rather a philosophy that permeates the entire company. Each team member has individual sustainability goals tied to their performance evaluations, showcasing the brand’s dedication to sustainable practices. Furthermore, the House of L, R & C has achieved B Corp certification, a designation that holds them accountable for their environmental and social impact.

Discussing the shifting consumer attitudes towards sustainability, Janelle Shiplett, the brand’s chief commercial officer and CMO, predicts that sustainability will soon become a non-negotiable aspect for brands. She believes consumers will demand transparency regarding product origins. Shiplett also highlighted the brand’s exploration of innovative materials, such as mushroom leathers and recycled materials, to create their products.

B Corp certification has played a crucial role in guiding The House of L, R & C’s sustainability efforts. Hayes likened it to food labeling and suggested that fashion products should have a similar labeling system to inform consumer choices. She also mentioned several areas the brand aims to focus on in their future sustainability goals, including blockchain traceability, transparency, carbon measurement, and circularity.

Ciara’s celebrity status helps bring attention to the brand’s mission, and she actively participates in conversations and decision-making processes. She frequently attends events and engages in discussions with UN representatives on sustainability and climate issues. When asked about potentially becoming a UN sustainability ambassador, Ciara expressed her willingness to embrace any opportunity that aligns with her mission.

In conclusion, Ciara and The House of L, R & C are fully committed to advancing sustainability in the fashion industry. They firmly believe that the younger generation’s vocal desire for change will contribute to building a better world. With their emphasis on love, care, and respect, they strive to make a positive impact on both people and the planet.
