Christophe Cuvillier has been named the new Chairman of SMCP’s board of directors, following recent changes to the board’s composition. SMCP, the parent company of popular brands including Sandro, Maje, Claudie Pierlot, and Fursac, has promoted Cuvillier from his previous role as an independent director, replacing former Chairman Yafu Qiu.
In response to the appointment, Cuvillier expressed his gratitude for the board’s confidence and his pride in continuing to support the group, which was founded by Evelyne Chetrite and Judith Milgrom, as well as all shareholders. He highlighted SMCP’s clear and ambitious strategic roadmap as a key factor in solidifying the company’s position as a global leader in affordable luxury. Cuvillier looks forward to collaborating closely with CEO Isabelle Guichot and her management team to tackle the exciting challenges presented by the fashion and retail industry.
Prior to joining SMCP, Cuvillier served as the Chairman of the management board at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, a prominent retail property giant. He became an independent director on the SMCP board in June of last year. The fashion group has faced difficulties in recent times, primarily due to issues with its former majority owner, European TopSoho (ES), a struggling subsidiary of Chinese company Shandong Ruyi. At a general shareholder meeting held on Friday, five representatives from the Chinese firm, including Yafu Qiu, were removed from the board, and three new directors were appointed.
Although facing these challenges, SMCP remains committed to its strategic roadmap and aims to maintain its position in the affordable luxury market. The appointment of Christophe Cuvillier as Chairman ushers in a new phase for the fashion group as it navigates the ever-changing dynamics of the industry.
