Christian Dior Expands Global Reach with First-ever Runway Show in South Korea

French luxury house Christian Dior is expanding its global reach by hosting its first-ever runway show in South Korea. The highly-anticipated catwalk event is scheduled to take place in Seoul on April 30 and will showcase Dior’s pre-fall 2022 collection. Previously, the collection was exclusively presented to senior fashion editors in Paris last December. This move underscores Dior’s commitment to celebrating cultural diversity and promoting creative dialogues.

The prestigious Ewha Womans University has been selected as the venue for the runway show, symbolizing the rich heritage of the fashion house. The choice also aligns with Dior’s Women@Dior program, which focuses on transmission, education, and sisterhood. Launched in 2017, the program is an initiative that offers mentoring and education opportunities to students, supported by the Dior brand.

The inspiration behind the pre-fall 2022 collection comes from Catherine, the younger sister of Christian Dior. Catherine played a courageous role in the French Resistance during World War II and served as a muse to her brother. Later in life, she became an expert florist and cultivated roses on the family farm in Provence. The collection incorporates elements such as peasant dresses, gardening aprons, and a new tote inspired by jute bags used for compost packaging. These designs pay tribute to the Provencal soil, while celebrating Catherine’s strong connection to nature.

South Korea holds a significant position in the luxury fashion market, estimated to be worth over $14 billion. Recognizing the country’s importance as an international destination, Dior has strategically worked to strengthen its presence. Last year, South Korean singer Jisoo of Blackpink was appointed as Dior’s global ambassador for both fashion and beauty. This collaboration gained immense popularity, with Dior’s live stream during Paris Fashion Week attracting 140 million online views. Other brands within the LVMH group, such as Louis Vuitton and Tiffany, have also chosen Korean stars BTS and Blackpink’s Rosé as ambassadors.

Dior’s decision to stage its inaugural catwalk show in South Korea reflects its dedication to engaging with diverse markets and embracing cultural exchange. By presenting its pre-fall 2022 collection in Seoul, Dior aims to celebrate creativity, foster connections, and share its brand vision with a wider audience. This event marks a significant milestone for both Dior and the South Korean fashion scene, showcasing the country’s growing influence in the global luxury market.
