Grosvenor, the property giant, has announced that Chris Jukes will be stepping into the role of Director of Liverpool One mall starting next month. Jukes will be taking over from Alison Clegg, who has been leading the popular shopping destination for the past 15 years and will be retiring next year. However, Clegg will continue to work alongside Jukes until March to ensure a smooth transition.
Jukes is a familiar face at Grosvenor, having been with the company since 2005. He has held various finance positions within the UK property operation and the wider business. Currently, he is responsible for finance in the Development and Investment teams, which includes Liverpool One.
Clegg has been an integral part of Grosvenor for 15 years, joining just before the opening of the first phase of Liverpool One in 2007. She has been instrumental in guiding the mall through numerous challenges, including the recent pandemic and its subsequent recovery. Despite Grosvenor only having a 23% stake in the mall, it manages the destination on behalf of all its investors and has achieved remarkable success. Since its opening in 2008, Liverpool One has become one of the leading retail and entertainment destinations in the UK, attracting approximately 29 million visitors each year.
In recent times, the mall has secured prestigious names, such as Charlotte Tilbury’s first boutique outside of London and Gravity’s flagship entertainment venue. Additionally, Inditex has opened stores for multiple brands at Liverpool One. The mall’s diverse offerings have contributed to a 20.9% increase in sales compared to the same period in 2019.
Jukes expressed his enthusiasm for leading Liverpool One, viewing it as an incredibly rewarding opportunity. He initially joined Grosvenor in 2005 to work on the project and is now excited to return and lead the team into the mall’s 15-year anniversary. Despite the challenges faced by the retail sector, Jukes believes that well-curated destinations like Liverpool One will continue to thrive. He also highlighted the upcoming Eurovision event in Liverpool and the mall’s milestone anniversary, making it an exciting time for the city.
