Chanel’s Striking Debut: A Couture Destination in Miami’s Design District

Chanel’s latest boutique in Miami’s Design District has made a striking debut, showcasing a two-floor couture destination that pays homage to the brand’s connection to the American art capital. Designed by architect Peter Marino, the boutique itself is considered a work of art.

Spanning an impressive 7,600 square feet, the boutique located at 155 NE 41st Street offers a wide range of Chanel’s latest offerings, including ready-to-wear collections, handbags, shoes, eyewear, fine jewelry, and watches. The exterior of the store boasts a white stucco façade with strategically placed windows, allowing passers-by a glimpse of the inviting and light-filled interior.

Upon entering the boutique, visitors are immediately greeted by a beveled black steel frame that guides them into a space decorated with grey wave stone floors and white hand-plastered walls, showcasing the brand’s iconic handbags. As customers explore further, they will ascend a few stone steps into a 30-foot-tall central atrium flooded with natural light from a 120-square-foot skylight. This atrium showcases stunning shelves and embedded niches that elegantly display the brand’s watches and fine jewelry.

For those looking to explore the second floor, a beautiful white 40-foot staircase awaits, leading to dedicated salons for Chanel’s shoes and ready-to-wear collections. The footwear space features Peter Marino’s Black Belt Collection Parallelo light fixtures for Venini and a Fran Taubman aluminum plate coffee table. The ready-to-wear salon on the second floor is adorned with a Suduca & Merillou wood and rattan coffee table along with Voukenas Petrides’ metallic Bent Half Tube Chairs.

Throughout the boutique, specially curated artworks adorn the space, adding an extra layer of artistic elegance. One notable piece is Vera Lutter’s monumental camera obscura photograph titled “LACMA with Yang- Na 2011- Present, 1: March 8, 2017,” which lines one wall of the central atrium. The space also features three works by Gregor Hildebrandt and a large resin and acrylic commission called “Black Stella,” by Peter Dayton, a frequent collaborator with Chanel.

Even the boutique’s elevator presents a unique artwork commissioned specifically for the space. Created by Chris Succo, the elevator showcases an abstract piece made by spray-painting black lacquer and oil on white linen. This artwork pays tribute to Mademoiselle Chanel’s distinct touch.

The first collection to grace the new boutique is Chanel’s Cruise 2021/22 offering, designed by artistic director Virginie Viard and originally unveiled in Les Baux-de-Provence, France.
