The startup, founded in 2013 by Gregory Altman and Rebecca Lacouture, focuses on “green chemistry” and has developed a patented technology called Activated Silk™. This technology produces a 100% natural liquid silk that can be integrated into various molecular compositions to enhance the properties of materials.
One of the key benefits of silk in the textile industry is its ability to preserve colors, wick moisture, and increase durability by preventing pilling and fiber shrinkage. By offering a bio-compatible alternative to synthetic polymers and additives, Activated Silk™ aligns with sustainable practices. Additionally, the completely natural nature of silk helps reduce the ecological impact of wastewater from material washing.
Chanel’s partnership with Evolved by Nature will allow both companies to explore innovative improvements in fabrics, focusing on material, mechanical, and optical enhancements.
