Chanel Supports Exhibition Dedicated to Romy Schneider

Chanel, the iconic fashion house, is showing its support for a new exhibition at the Cinémathèque de Paris that honors the legendary actress Romy Schneider. The exhibition aims to celebrate the close relationship between Schneider and Chanel by showcasing an outfit and photographs that testify to their enduring bond.

Romy Schneider, often referred to as the “eternal friend” of Chanel, once expressed her gratitude towards the fashion house by stating, “Chanel taught me everything without ever giving me advice.” The actress first collaborated with Chanel when she was dressed by Gabrielle Chanel herself for the short film “Il Lavoro” directed by Luchino Visconti in 1962. From then on, Schneider developed a deep affection for Chanel and its founder, considering them to be influential figures in her life.

To pay tribute to the special connection between Schneider and Chanel, the fashion house has announced its support for the Cinémathèque de Paris in organizing an exhibition dedicated to the actress. The exhibition, which will run from March 16 to July 31, 2022, precisely forty years after Schneider’s passing, aims to chronicle her rise and illustrious career in film. It will feature a range of artifacts including costumes, film excerpts, archives, posters, and interviews.

As part of its contribution, Chanel has loaned a tweed suit from its Fall-Winter 1961/1962 Haute Couture collection, which is identical to the one Schneider wore in the film “Boccace 70.” Additionally, the fashion house has made available five previously unseen photographs taken between 1961 and 1965 by renowned photographers Shahrokh Hatami and George Michalke. These items serve as a testament to the deep connection between Schneider and Chanel.

The exhibition, aptly titled “Romy Schneider,” will take place at the esteemed Cinémathèque française, located at 51 Rue de Bercy in Paris, from March 16 to July 31, 2022. It promises to offer a comprehensive and immersive experience that will allow fans and enthusiasts to delve into the life and work of one of the most beloved actresses of her time.

Chanel’s support for this exhibition not only emphasizes the lasting impact of Romy Schneider but also highlights her profound influence on both the fashion and film industries. By providing a loan of an iconic outfit and presenting exclusive photographs, Chanel offers a unique opportunity for visitors to appreciate the incredible legacy left by Schneider. This collaboration between Chanel and the renowned Cinémathèque de Paris truly signifies a remarkable tribute to an actress whose talent and style continue to captivate audiences.
