Chanel Acquires Colomer Leather Group

Chanel’s recent acquisition of the esteemed Spanish tannery, Colomer Leather Group, has cemented the luxury brand’s commitment to securing top-quality leather for its exclusive range of luxury leather goods. The purchase was carried out through one of Chanel’s holdings, giving the fashion powerhouse complete ownership of the renowned tannery previously known as Colomer Munmany.

Although the exact financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed, it is clear that Chanel is making a strategic investment in ensuring a stable and premium supply of leather for its products. The move also signifies Chanel’s dedication to preserving the legacy and expertise of historic leather manufacturers.

In the wake of the acquisition, former owners of Colomer Leather Group have made way for Chanel executives to take the reins. Bruno Pavlovsky, the president of fashion at Chanel, has assumed the role of chairman at the Spanish tannery’s helm. The transition signals a new chapter for Colomer Leather Group, with the luxury brand’s leadership poised to steer the company towards continued success.

Prior to the Chanel acquisition, Colomer Leather Group faced operational challenges and underwent a restructuring process that included job cuts and factory closures. Despite these hurdles, the company persists in its commitment to excellence, with a workforce of 218 employees and exports accounting for 60% of its leather products.

Chanel’s acquisition of Colomer Leather Group is not the luxury brand’s first foray into the world of tannery acquisitions. Since 2013, Chanel has actively invested in enhancing its leather craftsmanship capabilities through the acquisition of renowned companies like Bodin-Joyeux and Megisserie Richard. The addition of Colomer Leather Group to Chanel’s portfolio underscores the brand’s dedication to upholding tradition while striving for innovation in the luxury leather goods sector.
