The CFDA recently unveiled the recipients of the Fashion Manufacturing Initiative Grant Fund for the 2018-2019 cycle. This crucial program, now in its sixth iteration, was established with the aim of bolstering domestic manufacturing in the American fashion sector.
A total of $730,000 was granted to 12 deserving recipients, including Atelier Amelia, Button Down Factory, Create-A-Marker, Geri Gerard, Hertling, New York Embroidery Studio, Not Just Lace, Park Avenue Trimming, Rainbow Leather, SN Productions, Tailored Industry, and Timberlake Studios.
By collaborating with the New York City Economic Development Corporation, the CFDA has been able to sustain this initiative, with support from industry heavyweights like Theory, Ralph Lauren, and the Coach Foundation. The grants awarded cover a wide range of expenses such as equipment, software, infrastructure improvements, relocation assistance, and workforce training, all aimed at empowering designers with tools for success while preserving vital manufacturing jobs in New York City.
James Patchett, president and CEO of NYCEDC, underscored the significance of safeguarding local manufacturing to maintain the strength of the garment manufacturing sector in New York City. Steven Kolb, president and CEO of CFDA, reiterated this sentiment by highlighting that investing in local manufacturing not only bolsters the fashion industry but also fosters the growth of a sustainable production sector in the city.
Since its inception, the Fashion Manufacturing Initiative Grant Fund has allocated a total of $3.5 million to 33 manufacturers throughout New York City, demonstrating its enduring impact on the American fashion industry. This program remains a critical force in championing and upholding domestic manufacturing in the fashion scene.
