CFDA Announces Nominees and Honorees for 2022 Fashion Awards

The CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) has recently announced the nominees and honorees for the highly anticipated 2022 CFDA Fashion Awards. This prestigious event, in partnership with Amazon Fashion, will take place on November 7th in Manhattan and will pay homage to the biggest names in the fashion industry.

The awards will be distributed among various categories, which include designers of the year for womenswear, menswear, and accessories. In an exciting addition, the Stylist Award will be introduced, with Law Roach being recognized as the first-ever recipient.

A special tribute will be dedicated to the late designer Virgil Abloh, who will receive the posthumous Board of Trustee’s Award. This honor serves as recognition for Abloh’s tremendous contribution to the global fashion scene. Furthermore, another notable accolade, the CFDA’s 2022 Fashion Icon, will be presented to the multi-talented artist Lenny Kravitz. This prestigious recognition was previously bestowed upon Zendaya in 2021.

Steven Kolb, the CEO of CFDA, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming awards, remarking that, “The 2022 CFDA Fashion Awards will not only celebrate the exceptional talents within American fashion but also mark the CFDA’s remarkable 60th anniversary milestone.” Kolb also expressed his gratitude to Amazon Fashion for their unwavering support of the awards.

Nominees for the American Womenswear Designer of the Year category include Catherine Holstein for Khaite, Christopher John Rogers, Gabriela Hearst, LaQuan Smith, and Peter Do. Similarly, the Menswear Designer of the Year category features notable contenders such as Emily Bode Aujla for Bode, Jerry Lorenzo for Fear of God, Mike Amiri for Amiri, Thom Browne for Thom Browne New York, and Willy Chavarria.

The Emerging Designer of the Year category showcases the talents of Bach Mai, Carly Mark for Puppets and Puppets, Colm Dillane for KidSuper, Elena Velez, and Lauren Harwell Godfrey for Harwell Godfrey. Additionally, the Positive Social Influence Award will be granted to Slaysians from The House of Slay, including Prabal Gurung, Laura Kim, Phillip Lim, Tina Leung, and Ezra William.

Several other esteemed awards will be presented during the event. Andrew Bolton, the Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, will receive the Founder’s Award in honor of Eleanor Lambert. Laurie Lynn Stark and Richard Stark of Chrome Hearts will be recognized with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award. Patti Wilson will be honored with the Media Award created in honor of Eugenia Sheppard.

Highlighting the significance of environmental sustainability, the CFDA will bestow the Environmental Sustainability Award to the United Nations, with Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, accepting the honor. Finally, as part of the CFDA’s 60th anniversary year, a one-time Special Anniversary Award will be presented to Jeffrey Banks, a longstanding member of the CFDA.

As the 2022 CFDA Fashion Awards draw closer, more announcements regarding awards and nominees are expected to be made in the following weeks. With an impressive lineup of nominees and honorees, this year’s event promises to be a grand celebration of talent and creativity within the American fashion industry.
