CEO Exchanges: Burberry, Ferragamo, and Versace

A month has passed since the news of the CEO’s upcoming departure from the Italian luxury house, and now the company has finally revealed the name of its replacement. It seems that there is an intricate dance happening within the fashion industry, specifically between Burberry, Ferragamo, and Versace, with the transfer of key executives. These movements are taking place between the United Kingdom and Italy, indicating a vibrant fashion transfer market.

Last year, Marco Gobbetti shook the fashion world by announcing his departure from Burberry to join Salvatore Ferragamo. The speculation regarding who would take his place as CEO was intense, and four months later, Burberry unveiled Jonathan Akeroyd as their chosen successor. Akeroyd had been serving as the CEO of Gianni Versace SpA since 2016.

Interestingly, Akeroyd will be parting ways with the Milanese brand in spring, as Versace recently announced the appointment of Cedric Wilmotte as their new CEO, effective from January 17th. Wilmotte brings with him a wealth of experience, having previously worked at Donna Karan and Marc Jacobs. For the past 13 years, he has served as the President of the EMEA region at Michael Kors, which, coincidentally, is also owned by Capri Holdings Limited, the parent company of Versace.

Nevertheless, it is important to note that Wilmotte’s appointment is being described as “temporary” by the group, as they continue their search for a long-term replacement. It seems that Wilmotte will serve as an interim CEO until the end of 2022.

Overall, this ongoing exchange of CEOs between these prestigious fashion houses highlights the dynamic nature of the industry. The links between Burberry, Ferragamo, and Versace, both in terms of personnel and ownership, further emphasize the interconnectedness of the luxury fashion world.
