Carven Appoints Barnabé Hardy as Artistic Director of Menswear

On January 24, 2015, Carven made a significant announcement, appointing Barnabé Hardy as the new artistic director for its menswear collections. This came after the departure of Guillaume Henry, who had moved to Maison Nina Ricci. Henry’s departure had left fashion experts speculating about the future of Carven, as he had successfully brought a new sense of modernity to the brand and greatly contributed to its upscale image.

Carven kept the name of Henry’s successor a secret for a long time, which added to the anticipation surrounding the announcement. Eventually, the French ready-to-wear brand turned to Barnabé Hardy to take on the artistic direction of its menswear collection. With his exceptional talent and extensive professional background, it is expected that Hardy will bring a fresh perspective and enhance the masculine silhouettes of this century-old brand.

Barnabé Hardy, a 39-year-old designer, has had a remarkable journey in the fashion industry. He has worked with some of the biggest names in the field to refine his extraordinary craftsmanship. From 1999 to 2001, Hardy honed his skills at Callaghan in Italy. He then joined forces with Balenciaga, where he created and designed the menswear line for eight consecutive years. His association with Balenciaga also allowed him to collaborate closely with Nicolas Ghesquière, the current artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s womenswear line.

In addition to his work with established fashion houses, Hardy launched his first line of sweatshirts, Minets by Barnabé, in 2001. The line featured intricately embroidered pieces with a deliciously retro style. The designer also had the opportunity to collaborate with the iconic Karl Lagerfeld on the creation of his eponymous line of accessories and leather clothing.

In 2009, Barnabé Hardy made the decision to establish his own fashion house, and his work was met with enthusiastic reception at the time.

Hardy is set to begin his new role as the artistic director for Carven’s menswear collection, starting with the Spring-Summer 2016 collection. Given his impressive background and accomplishments, it is anticipated that he will continue the brand’s legacy of innovative and stylish designs.
