Cartier’s Commitment to Venice: Film Festival Sponsorship and Heritage Preservation

Luxury brand Cartier is making a significant impact in Venice through its involvement in the Venice Film Festival and its commitment to preserving the city’s heritage. Not only does Cartier sponsor the festival, but it is also financing the restoration of significant landmarks in Venice.

One of the highlights of the festival is the virtual reality opera called “Eugénie’s Tears,” staged by Cartier ambassador Melanie Laurent. Laurent, who wrote the opera herself, tells the love story between Igor the fisherman and Eugenie the mermaid. While the opera was originally created for Cartier in 2020 and premiered in Geneva in 2021, the Venice edition of the opera is a completely new production that combines live performances and a VR experience.

In addition to the opera, Cartier is the main sponsor of the Venice Film Festival. As part of its sponsorship, Cartier will host a series of Cartier Art Dialogues, featuring conversations between composers and musicians. These dialogues will explore the relationship between sounds and vision and will include renowned composers such as Alexandre Desplat and Enrico Morricone. The conversations will be broadcast on the Mezzo TV channel and a dedicated platform accessible to the public.

Beyond the film festival, Cartier is dedicated to preserving Venetian heritage. The brand is funding the restoration of two significant architectural works – Teatro Verde and the Conservatorio Di Musica Benedetto Marcello. Teatro Verde, an amphitheater on the island of San Giorgio, has had its structure consolidated and its seats and hedges restored with the help of Cartier. Additionally, Cartier is providing support to the renowned music conservatory, Conservatorio Di Musica Benedetto Marcello.

Cartier’s commitment to preserving Venetian craftsmanship is evident through its support of Orsoni Venezia 1888. As the last historical furnace permitted to operate with fire in Venice, Orsoni Venezia 1888 will establish a new center of excellence and training called La Schola. With Cartier’s assistance, La Schola will continue the development of the ancient craft of gold leaf and Venetian smalti mosaic production.

Cyrille Vigneron, president and CEO of Cartier, emphasized the brand’s dedication to Venice, stating that preserving the city’s beauty and enriching it is one of Cartier’s fundamental principles. He explained that through their support and commitment, Cartier aims to help preserve Venice’s heritage by restoring historic landmarks and contributing to its cultural life.

To celebrate its historic connections to cinema, Cartier has created a special display of iconic pieces featured in major film classics. This display, which includes notable items like Grace Kelly’s engagement ring and a dazzling bracelet worn by Gloria Swanson, will be showcased at Cartier’s boutique in Venice.

Cartier’s presence in Venice extends beyond the world of luxury fashion and jewelry. The brand’s support for the arts, restoration projects, and cultural events showcases its dedication to preserving heritage and contributing to the cultural vibrancy of the city.
