Carolina Herrera Promotes Female Talent and Combats Workplace Racism

Carolina Herrera, the renowned fashion designer from Venezuela, is taking steps to promote female talent and combat workplace racism in the fashion industry. To do this, she has partnered with the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) to establish a scholarship program in her name, providing support to women who have faced racism.

Herrera expressed her excitement about the scholarship, stating her close connection to FIT as a New York institution. The collaboration aims to address the underrepresentation of women of color in educational institutions and offer them opportunities to pursue careers in fashion.

The Carolina Herrera Social Justice Scholarship Program will offer financial aid to a student throughout their four years at FIT. Starting in 2022, four annual donations will be made to this program. Wes Gordon, the creative director of Carolina Herrera, believes that this partnership will support the future of the fashion house by contributing to the education and empowerment of talented women.

FIT, with its extensive collection of Carolina Herrera’s archives in its museum, is considered a crucial pillar in the American fashion industry. Gordon stressed the importance of education in empowering the next generation of creative women. Dr. Joyce F. Brown, the president of FIT, commended Herrera for her dedication and support, calling her an inspiration to the students. FIT is proud to have a social justice scholarship named after Herrera, recognizing her commitment to empowering women in the industry.

In addition to financial support, Herrera will provide internship and learning opportunities to the scholarship recipient, helping them with their professional growth and transition. Through these opportunities, Herrera aims to ensure that the recipient gains valuable industry experience and is well-prepared for their future career.

Carolina A. Herrera, the brand’s creative director of beauty, highlighted the shared values between Carolina Herrera and FIT, emphasizing the significance of education in empowerment. She believes that education plays a vital role in enabling individuals to achieve their full potential.

Carolina Herrera’s partnership with FIT to establish the Carolina Herrera Social Justice Scholarship Program showcases the brand’s dedication to creating a more inclusive and diverse fashion industry. Through financial aid and professional opportunities, this initiative aims to empower women of color and address workplace racism. The collaboration between Herrera and FIT underscores the crucial role of education in providing equal opportunities for aspiring fashion professionals.
