Calzedonia Acquires Majority Stake in Luxury Brand Antonio Marras

Luxury brand Antonio Marras has found a lifeline in Calzedonia, as the Italian group acquires a majority stake in the struggling fashion house. Antonio Marras, known for its craftsmanship and poetic designs, has been facing financial difficulties, making this acquisition crucial for its survival.

The price of the acquisition has not been disclosed, but both companies have confirmed that the agreement allows for Calzedonia’s entry into the capital of Antonio Marras srl. Gruppo Calzedonia will acquire 80% of Antonio Marras and provide the necessary investments for a full re-launch of the brand, ensuring its future.

Calzedonia, the parent company of brands such as Calzedonia, Intimissimi, Tezenis, and Falconeri, operates over 5,000 points-of-sale worldwide. With this acquisition, Calzedonia aims to strengthen its presence in the high-end market. The company initially entered this market in 2009 with the acquisition of premium cashmere brand Falconeri and expanded its portfolio with the purchase of Atelier Emé, specializing in wedding dresses, in 2015.

Sandro Veronesi, the head of Calzedonia, sees this agreement as an opportunity to enter the world of exclusivity and creativity. He stresses the importance of approaching the venture with caution and respect, while also expressing confidence in the combination of Antonio Marras’ artistic vision and Calzedonia’s structure.

Calzedonia has demonstrated its financial strength, achieving €2.5 billion in sales in 2021, a significant increase compared to the previous year. The company’s gross operating result (EBITDA) exceeded €760 million, indicating its stability and potential for growth.
