Calvin Klein Appoints Tim Coppens as Design Consultant for Menswear Collection

Calvin Klein has recently brought on board Tim Coppens, a talented Belgian designer, to serve as a design consultant for its ready-to-wear collection. This strategic move comes in the wake of the departure of former creative director Raf Simons, as the brand aims to rejuvenate its image and offerings. The renowned New York-based fashion house, under the umbrella of PVH, has appointed Coppens to the role of consultant design director for menswear within Calvin Klein’s contemporary apparel line on a temporary basis.

In a statement, Calvin Klein, Inc. announced, “We are thrilled to welcome Tim Coppens as consultant design director for menswear at Calvin Klein, focusing on products distributed in Asia through our partner Club 21.” While specific details regarding Coppens’ responsibilities have not been revealed, it is evident that Calvin Klein is actively seeking a replacement for the creative director position in the aftermath of a challenging year in 2019. The discontinuation of the high-end Calvin Klein 205W39NYC line, formerly known as Calvin Klein Collection, along with the closure of its flagship Madison Avenue store, marked significant transitions for the brand.

The appointment of Cheryl Abel-Hodges as CEO in June followed a series of staff layoffs in New York and Milan, where offices were shuttered. With a background in design from Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Coppens has been a fixture in the fashion industry since establishing his sportswear label in New York in 2011. He has collaborated with prestigious brands including Ralph Lauren RLX, Bogner, Adidas, and Under Armour Sportswear throughout his career. The specifics of Coppens’ involvement with Calvin Klein remain a subject for speculation, but observers are keen to see if this collaboration signals the start of a lasting partnership between the designer and the iconic fashion brand.
