Burberry, the luxury brand, has partnered with the IBM Extreme Blue training program to develop a sustainable fashion solution. The program, which focuses on design and development, allows students to work with a client to create an innovative prototype. As part of its transformation strategy, Burberry joined forces with the program to create a traceability tool that informs consumers about the origins of its products.
The tool, called “Voyage,” utilizes IBM’s Cloud and Blockchain technologies to collect data throughout the production chain. This data is then made accessible to consumers through Burberry’s mobile application. By scanning the label or entering a product’s identifying code, consumers can easily access information about the product’s origins.
Additionally, the tool allows for customization based on user preferences. Whether consumers prioritize vegan, recycled, or organic materials, Voyage can provide personalized product recommendations. The tool is also inclusive, as consumers can contribute information about a product’s lifecycle, such as whether it has been recycled or resold.
While the details of the tool’s full-scale deployment have not yet been revealed, Burberry’s commitment to social and environmental responsibility suggests that it will be an important aspect of the brand’s future plans.
