Burberry Collaborates with Marcus Rashford to Champion Literacy Improvement

Burberry, the luxury fashion brand, has teamed up with renowned footballer Marcus Rashford to champion the cause of literacy improvement for disadvantaged children in the UK. Rashford, who has previously worked with Burberry on their campaigns, will be collaborating closely with the brand to ensure that children have access to safe environments and resources that will help them unleash their full potential.

One of the key initiatives of this partnership is Burberry’s funding to revitalize school libraries and donate books, all aimed at providing children with greater access to literature and enhancing their literacy skills. The company’s support is not limited to the UK, as it also intends to extend its assistance to similar projects in the US and Asia.

Marcus Rashford, recognized as both a football star and a youth poverty campaigner, shared his perspective on the collaboration: “We’ve identified a pressing need here. Many children currently lack access to books primarily due to financial constraints, and it’s crucial to inspire and empower them to see beyond the challenges they face every day. These children, more than anyone else, need the escapism that reading provides, and access to books should not be restricted by their geographical location.”

In the UK, Burberry has partnered with Britain’s National Literacy Trust (NLT) to support primary school libraries and help young individuals develop their literacy skills. Research conducted by the NLT has revealed that one in four schools in the most disadvantaged communities in England lack a library or dedicated reading space, compared to a national average of one in eight schools. Burberry’s funding will transform library spaces in 10 schools across Manchester, Yorkshire, and London that are in immediate need. Furthermore, all 10 schools will take part in the Marcus Rashford Book Club, a program established by Rashford in collaboration with publisher Macmillan Children’s Books, with the aim of fostering a love for reading among children. These schools will also receive a donation of 8,000 books.

In the US, Burberry’s existing partnership with Wide Rainbow, an organization that provides access to arts education in underserved communities, will contribute to the establishment of 15 libraries in New York City and its surrounding areas. Additionally, three larger libraries will be set up in Los Angeles, Detroit, and New York City. Furthermore, in Asia, Burberry will collaborate with Bring Me a Book, based in Hong Kong, and the Japan School Library Association.

Burberry’s collaboration with Marcus Rashford serves as a testament to the brand’s commitment to social responsibility and enabling children through literacy. By supporting initiatives that center on improving access to books and creating secure learning environments, Burberry is making a tangible impact on the lives of underprivileged children worldwide. Through this partnership, the brand hopes to inspire a love for reading and equip children with the essential tools to overcome obstacles and achieve their full potential.
