Burberry Collaborates with Keith Khan and Leeds 2023: A Celebration of Community and Art

Luxury fashion brand Burberry has recently collaborated with renowned British artist Keith Khan and the Leeds 2023 event to create a stunning collection of bespoke textile artworks. The aim of this unique collaboration is to pay homage to the diverse neighborhoods of Leeds, drawing inspiration from the city’s captivating landscape, rich history, and diverse communities.

Burberry’s involvement in this project is not only fitting but also significant, given its strong ties to textiles through the Burberry Mill in Keighley and its presence in Leeds. Aptly named ‘The Gift’, the collection comprises 33 distinctive motifs, each artfully transformed into a special artwork by Khan. These artworks will be generously gifted to each ward in Leeds for public display, allowing residents and visitors alike to appreciate the beauty and diversity of their city.

In addition to the textile artworks, Burberry has generously donated a bespoke jacquard fabric that flawlessly incorporates all 33 motifs. This fabric has been shared with local designers, makers, and students from Leeds Arts University, empowering them to create a range of remarkable garments. The collection will include a variety of stunning pieces such as kimonos, suits, capes, and dashikis, impeccably showcasing the multifaceted nature of Leeds and the incredible talent within the local fashion industry.

All of these captivating textile artworks and garments have been showcased at the Leeds Corn Exchange in an awe-inspiring exhibition titled ‘A City Without Seams’. This exhibit serves as a visual testament to the remarkable collaboration between Burberry, Keith Khan, and the Leeds 2023 event. Once the exhibition concludes, the artworks and garments will be distributed to their respective wards for display in local venues, starting from October.

This collaboration extends beyond the creation of beautiful artworks and garments. It is a true celebration of the community fabric and serves as an uplifting symbol of unity and pride for the people of Leeds. Rob Blomfield, Vice-President of Burberry’s Business Services in Leeds, expressed his sincere hope that these textile artworks will be cherished not only by the current generation but by future generations as well, serving as an everlasting symbol of the community’s spirit.

The partnership between Burberry, Keith Khan, and the Leeds 2023 event underscores the brand’s commitment to supporting and showcasing local talent and celebrating the distinctive character of various cities and communities. Through endeavors like this, Burberry solidifies itself as a brand that values and honors art, culture, and community.
