Burberry Appoints Sam Fischer to Board of Directors

Burberry, the renowned luxury fashion house, has recently made a significant addition to its board of directors with the appointment of Sam Fischer. Effective November 1st, Fischer will be joining Burberry as a non-executive director, bringing with him a wealth of experience in the Asian markets.

Currently serving as the president of Diageo in Greater China and Asia Pacific, Fischer has held various strategic roles in leading heritage premium brands. With his background in managing director positions in both Greater China and South East Asia at Diageo, as well as his past experience at Colgate-Palmolive, Fischer is well-equipped to contribute valuable insights to Burberry’s board.

Gerry Murphy, chairman of Burberry, expressed his confidence in Fischer’s capabilities, citing his expertise as a key asset in driving growth in Asian markets. This appointment comes at a crucial time for Burberry as it focuses on solidifying its luxury positioning through a multi-year plan.

Burberry’s efforts to expand in Asia have been paying off, with a notable increase in sales in the Asia Pacific region during the first quarter. Mainland China, in particular, has been a significant contributor to this growth. While the EMEIA region saw a modest increase in sales and the Americas experienced flat sales growth, Burberry reported an overall 4% growth in comparable store sales in the first quarter.

The company attributes its success to a substantial increase in new product offerings, with new products accounting for approximately 50% of the mainline offer by June. This marks a significant increase from the 10-15% reported in March.

As Burberry continues to navigate the competitive landscape of luxury fashion, the appointment of Sam Fischer is deemed a strategic move to strengthen its foothold in key markets and drive long-term growth.
