Burberry Announces New CEO and Executive Director

Following the recent announcement of Marco Gobbetti’s departure, Burberry has revealed its new CEO and Executive Director, Jonathan Akeroyd, who will be joining the company next year. Akeroyd has been serving as the CEO of Gianni Versace SpA since 2016 and will make the transition from Milan to London in spring. This move marks a significant return to Akeroyd’s roots, as he previously held the CEO position at Alexander McQueen for 12 years and has gained valuable experience through his roles at Harrods. With a wealth of industry knowledge and expertise, Akeroyd is thrilled to join Burberry and be part of a talented team that has ambitious plans for the future. As for the interim period before Akeroyd’s official commencement on April 1, 2022, Burberry’s chairman, Gerry Murphy, will temporarily assume the leadership of the executive committee. This appointment signifies a pivotal moment for the luxury brand as it undergoes a transition of leadership and sets the stage for future growth.
