Burberry Announces Departure of Riccardo Tisci and Succession by Daniel Lee

The fashion industry was shocked by Burberry’s recent announcement confirming the departure of Riccardo Tisci as Chief Creative Officer. Rumors had been circulating for some time, but the news still caught many by surprise. Tisci will be leaving the company after showcasing his final collection for Spring/Summer 2023 in London this week. Stepping into his shoes is none other than Daniel Lee, the former star designer at Bottega Veneta.

Daniel Lee gained recognition for revitalizing Bottega Veneta under the ownership of Kering. His successful stint at the brand propelled him into the spotlight. Prior to his time at Bottega Veneta, Lee held the position of Director of ready-to-wear design at Celine. With experience at renowned fashion houses like Maison Margiela, Balenciaga, and Donna Karan, Lee brings a wealth of expertise to his new role at Burberry.

As Burberry’s new Chief Creative Officer, Daniel Lee will be responsible for overseeing all of the brand’s collections. His much-anticipated debut runway show for Burberry is scheduled to take place at London Fashion Week in February 2023. CEO Jonathan Akeroyd expressed his confidence in Lee, describing him as an exceptional talent with a deep understanding of the luxury consumer landscape and a track record of commercial success. Akeroyd believes that Lee’s appointment aligns perfectly with Burberry’s future ambitions.

While announcing the leadership change, Burberry also made sure to acknowledge Riccardo Tisci’s contributions during his nearly five-year tenure. Under Tisci’s creative leadership, the brand underwent a transformative period, reinvigorating its brand image, introducing a new visual identity, and reviving the Thomas Burberry Monogram. Tisci’s modernized product offerings attracted a younger and more diverse customer base.

Jonathan Akeroyd praised Tisci for his role in repositioning Burberry and thanked him for his creative leadership. Tisci, in turn, expressed his pride in the work he has accomplished at Burberry, stating that the brand holds a special place in his heart. Throughout his time at Burberry, Tisci aimed to continue the legacy of innovation and champion creativity and diversity.

Overall, this announcement signifies a significant change in leadership at Burberry, which will undoubtedly be closely watched by the fashion world. The industry eagerly anticipates Daniel Lee’s debut collection and the direction he will steer Burberry in the coming years.
