Burberry Acquires Pattern’s Product Development Business

Burberry, the esteemed luxury fashion brand hailing from the UK, has recently completed its acquisition of a product development business from Pattern, a long-standing Italian supplier. This strategic investment aims to enhance Burberry’s technical outerwear capabilities and provide the brand with greater control over the quality, cost, delivery, and sustainability of its products.

In solidifying its manufacturing heritage in the UK, Burberry’s acquisition of Pattern’s product development business is a significant move. The company will continue to produce its iconic heritage trench coats and weave gabardine, a durable waterproof fabric, in the UK. This acquisition comes after the successful integration of Burberry’s leather goods hub in Florence, Italy.

For nearly two decades, Burberry has collaborated with Pattern at their product development site in Turin, Italy, to create luxury ready-to-wear items like quilts and downs. As part of the acquisition, around 70 Pattern employees in Turin will join the Burberry team once the transaction is finalized later this year. Pattern will continue to operate the remaining parts of its business not included in the acquisition.

Jonathan Akeroyd, CEO of Burberry, expressed his excitement regarding this strategic investment, emphasizing that it is a crucial step in unlocking the full potential of Burberry’s outerwear category. He believes that the acquisition will enhance the brand’s capabilities, leverage its strong foundations in the UK, and provide greater control over the quality, delivery, and sustainability of Burberry’s products. Akeroyd warmly welcomed the new colleagues from Pattern, highlighting the company’s enthusiasm for this exciting development.

Overall, Burberry’s acquisition of Pattern’s product development business serves as another milestone in the brand’s continuous efforts to maintain its esteemed position in the global fashion market. With this strategic move, Burberry not only positions itself to excel in the outerwear category but also strengthens its commitment to quality, sustainability, and craftsmanship.
