British Fashion Council Bolsters Board with Key Diversity Appointments

The British Fashion Council (BFC) is embarking on a transformational journey by bolstering its board of directors with four key appointments to tackle pressing issues such as diversity and inclusion. This strategic move is a response to the increased scrutiny faced by the fashion industry in light of the global Black Lives Matter movement.

The newly appointed non-executive directors bring a wealth of experience and diverse perspectives to the board. Jamie Gill, the CEO of luxury brand Roksanda, is a British-Indian leader who took the reins at a young age. June Sarpong, the BBC’s director of creative diversity, is a vocal champion for inclusivity. Scott Morrison, the founder of The Boom!, is renowned for his impactful approach to culture, while Sian Westerman, a senior advisor at Rothschild & Co, boasts an impressive background in various advisory roles.

With a focus on diversifying the board, these appointments mark a significant shift from the council’s previous predominantly white composition. The current executive board, led by chair Stephanie Phair, consists of renowned figures such as menswear chair Dylan Jones and chief executive Caroline Rush, among others.

Stephanie Phair expressed her excitement about the new additions, emphasizing the unique perspectives and expertise they bring to the table. She noted, “We are thrilled to welcome Jamie, June, Scott, and Sian to the British Fashion Council executive board. Their wealth of experience will be invaluable as we strive to support British talent and address crucial issues like sustainability, diversity, and inclusion in the industry.”

This proactive approach by the BFC demonstrates a commitment to driving positive change and fostering a more inclusive and diverse fashion landscape. The industry’s evolution towards a more equitable future is indeed a promising journey.
