British Fashion Council Announces Recipients of Annual Talent Support Program

The British Fashion Council (BFC) has recently announced the recipients of its annual talent support program. This is a significant milestone for the BFC Foundation, the charity arm of the BFC, as it had to temporarily suspend its talent support initiative last year due to the focus on its Covid fund. However, in the 2020/21 period, the foundation raised an impressive £1.7 million to provide support to emerging designers and students in the fashion industry.

The program is now back in action, offering mentoring and financial support grants to both designers and students. Clearpay, the principal partner of London Fashion Week, has played a crucial role in underwriting funding gaps in these initiatives, ensuring that talented individuals have the resources they need to pursue their dreams.

One of the key highlights of this year’s support initiatives is Newgen, which is recognized as one of the most established designer development schemes worldwide. The recipients for this year include a fantastic lineup of talented designers such as Ahluwalia, Art School, Asai, Bianca Saunders, and many more. These designers will not only receive financial support, but also get the opportunity to showcase their work and benefit from mentoring that will enhance their critical business skills. The BFC provides individual mentoring and valuable business training sessions to help these designers strengthen their infrastructure. Additionally, pro-bono legal services are made available to them, ensuring they have the necessary legal support.

In addition to Newgen, the BFC/GQ Designer Menswear Fund aims to support exceptional talent and empower businesses to contribute to positive growth. The fund offers high-level business mentoring, pro-bono legal services, professional services, and a cash prize. The shortlisted designers for this year’s fund are Ahluwalia, Bethany Williams, Bianca Saunders, and more. The winner of this prestigious fund will be announced in the coming month, adding to the anticipation and excitement surrounding this event.

Furthermore, the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund has recently revealed its recipient for this year: Bethany Williams. This fund is specifically designed to support designers who demonstrate exemplary talent and a commitment to environmental and community impact. Williams has been recognized for her outstanding work and dedication to driving positive change within the industry.

Caroline Rush, the CEO of the BFC, highlighted the importance of championing talent, supporting emerging designers, and increasing diversity within the fashion industry. The BFC Foundation is committed to promoting equality, equity, and opportunity, ensuring that the industry remains accessible to talented individuals from all backgrounds. Rush expressed her congratulations to all the designers who have received support this year, and expressed gratitude towards the funders, judges, and mentors who have contributed to establishing one of the most robust talent support networks in the global market.
