British Fashion Council Announces Institute of Positive Fashion Forum

The British Fashion Council (BFC) has announced its plans to host the inaugural Institute of Positive Fashion Forum (IPF Forum) on June 10th. This unique digital event aims to unite the British fashion industry and global businesses for a day-long discussion on sustainability and collaboration, in preparation for the upcoming COP26, the United Nations Climate Change Conference of 2021. By focusing on key topics such as the environment, people, community, craftsmanship, and COP26 themes, the IPF Forum hopes to inspire and equip attendees with the knowledge and tools necessary to drive positive change within the fashion industry.

One of the primary objectives of the IPF Forum is to address pressing issues such as the race to net zero, green economy, biodiversity, circularity, social justice, diversity and inclusion, and community. By delving deep into these topics, the event aims to provide practical steps and diverse perspectives that enable participants to make sustainable changes within their respective organizations.

Renowned speakers have already been confirmed for the IPF Forum, including Emmanuel Gintzburger, CEO of Alexander McQueen, and Marco Gobbetti, CEO of Burberry. Additionally, June Sarpong, Director of Creative Diversity for the BBC, will engage in a conversation with Virgil Abloh, the founder and creative director of Off-White and artistic director of Louis Vuitton Mens. The event will also see the participation of influential figures such as Ayesha Barenblat, founder & CEO of Remake; Bandana Tewari, lifestyle journalist and sustainability activist; Cyrill Gutsch, founder of Parley for the Oceans; and Dilys Williams, director for the Centre for Sustainable Fashion, among others. More speakers, sessions, and keynotes will be announced leading up to the event, ensuring a diverse range of voices and expertise.

In addition to discussions and talks, the IPF Forum will launch the ‘IPF Future of Fashion Innovation Showcase’, curated by the BFC and Fashion For Good. This showcase aims to highlight cutting-edge innovations within the UK fashion value chain that support responsible and circular practices, aligning with the goals of COP26.

Caroline Rush, the chief executive of the BFC, stressed the significance of the IPF Forum in instigating sustainable changes within the fashion industry. She emphasized that while the past year has offered the industry an opportunity to reassess its priorities, there is still urgent work to be done to meet the goals of COP26. The IPF Forum aims to facilitate this progress by bringing together experts and providing practical steps towards a more sustainable future.

Tickets for the IPF Forum will be available through the IPF website, costing £150 for the day. Corporate packages are also offered, and BFC patrons and designer members will receive one complimentary ticket each, with the option to purchase additional tickets at a special rate. This event serves as a crucial platform for the fashion industry to unite, acquire knowledge from experts, and collectively drive positive change toward a more sustainable future.
