The brazen heist involved four suspects who used a car to forcefully crash through the front entrance of the esteemed department store before making their escape in a white VW Golf filled with high-end merchandise. Among the items snatched were a lavish £40,000 Gucci handbag and a stunning £20,000 Fendi purse.
In the midst of the robbery, a brave security guard attempted to block the intruders’ access to the store. However, matters took a dangerous turn when one of the criminals brandished a knife, forcing the guard to retreat in order to protect themselves. The gang then menacingly drove towards another security guard before fleeing the scene. Detective Constable Tom Aylward from Westminster CID confirmed that the raid was a carefully planned and swift operation. Authorities are actively pursuing leads, gathering witness reports, and scouring CCTV footage to track down the culprits responsible for the theft and their escape.
Despite the shattered front window on Oxford Street, Selfridges managed to resume business as usual following the incident. A spokesperson for the renowned retailer assured the public that no injuries were sustained during the ordeal and that law enforcement is diligently investigating the case. This audacious theft is just one in a string of burglaries plaguing upscale stores, with Watches of Switzerland, Canada Goose, and Apple also falling prey to similar crimes in recent times.
