Brand Finance Luxury & Premium 50 2022 Report: Porsche Leads the Way

In its latest report, Brand Finance highlights the most valuable luxury and premium brands in its Luxury & Premium 50 2022 ranking. The results encompass a wide range of industries, including fashion, automotive, and accommodations, and demonstrate the industry’s immense power.

Leading the pack is Porsche, solidifying its position as the world’s most valuable luxury brand with an estimated value of approximately $33.7 billion. Despite a slight decline of 2%, Porsche’s recent listing on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange is expected to further strengthen its leading position. This year, the cumulative value of the Top 50 luxury and high-end brands amounts to $247.8 billion, surpassing the 2020 estimate of $227.1 billion.

In the realm of fashion, Louis Vuitton follows closely behind Porsche with a valuation of $23.4 billion. The fashion house experienced an exponential growth of 58% compared to the previous year, reflecting the significance of apparel brands in the industry. Gucci, Chanel, and Hermès trail closely behind, with valuations ranging from $13.5 billion to $18.1 billion and exhibiting substantial growth rates of 15% to 16%. Collectively, fashion brands account for 65.8% of the total valuation of the Top 50, amounting to $163 billion.

The study also highlights the significant growth observed in the hotel segment, with the Ritz-Carlton brand leading the way. Marriott International-owned Ritz-Carlton saw its valuation reach $1.1 billion, marking a remarkable 112% increase. This growth is attributed to the recovery of international travel and the strong reputation and branding of the Ritz-Carlton.

The revitalization of tourist flows has also been beneficial to Estée Lauder, the American cosmetics brand, which has entered the Top 10 most valuable luxury brands this year. It experienced a 39% increase in value, reaching $7.9 billion, driven by its performance in travel retail.

French luxury brands continue to dominate the luxury and premium space, with half of the brands in the Top 10 originating from France. Out of the 50 brands in the entire ranking, 12 are French, solidifying France as the most represented country. These French brands account for over 39% of the total valuation of the Luxury & Premium 50, totaling $96.8 billion, showcasing the enduring strength of the French luxury industry.

This report highlights the resilient growth and influence of the luxury and premium industry, with Porsche leading the way and fashion brands maintaining their dominance. The recovery of international travel and the allure of renowned brands like Ritz-Carlton and Estée Lauder further contribute to the industry’s success. Overall, the French luxury sector continues to impress and cement its position as a global leader in the luxury and premium market.
