Bottega Veneta’s Mesmerizing Show at Milan Fashion Week

Bottega Veneta delivered a mesmerizing show during Milan Fashion Week, showcasing the brand’s unique culture, elegance, and artistic vision. The runway was graced by a diverse cast of models, including both professionals and non-professionals, each exuding their own individualistic style as they walked alongside rare Italian statues.

Matthieu Blazy, the creative director of Bottega Veneta, utilized this platform to delve into the concept of power dressing in the midst of a resurgence of the 90s power suit trend in fashion. Blazy described his inspiration for the show as a carnival, where individuals journey together in the same direction, evoking an atmosphere of mystery and intrigue.

The collection itself served as a testament to Bottega Veneta’s exquisite craftsmanship and innovative spirit. It commenced with sleek, yet elegant white silhouettes, such as lingerie dresses and shirt dresses designed for individuals of all genders. Noteworthy was the use of unconventional materials, with wool or cotton-like fabrics ingeniously crafted from lightweight leather. Blazy also infused the collection with witty details, such as woven leather socks and coats that resembled the texture of grass, demonstrating the brand’s meticulous attention to detail and playful approach.

Undoubtedly, the coats stole the spotlight in this collection. Oversized spy coats crafted from black leather, faux alligator or mohair cashmere dressing gowns for men, and rusty stamped snakeskin trenches for women comprised the stand-out pieces. The tailoring of the coats exuded an aerodynamic yet multi-dimensional aura, showcasing a distinct Italian sensibility. The craftsmanship was exceptional, as seen in a green jacket that appeared to be woven with grass rather than embroidered.

Blazy delved into the essence of chicness, pondering the question of when one truly looks chic. He acknowledged that while the traditional power suit may no longer embody the pinnacle of power dressing, it still holds an empowering allure, particularly for the younger generation. This introspective approach added depth to the show, inviting the audience to contemplate the multifaceted nature of fashion.

Elevating the experience was a soundtrack featuring global parade sounds, encompassing samba and African beats, creating an immersive environment for the audience. Blazy explained that the incorporation of the two statues in the parade was a means of reconnecting Italy with its rich history. He emphasized the notion of positive nationalism and the ability to reclaim history in a positive light.

The collection encompassed a range of eveningwear options, from halter necks to voluminous poufs and elegant ball gowns, all meticulously crafted from feather-light leathers. The models confidently strutted down the runway, carrying an array of bags, further exemplifying Bottega Veneta’s expertise in accessories. The finale featured an Asian model donning a white tank top and blue leather jeans, reminiscent of Blazy’s debut BV show in February 2022, providing a sense of continuity and closure to the collection.

Blazy concluded that this collection marked the conclusion of a chapter centered around Italy, highlighting the importance of togetherness in the face of shared experiences. He likened the show to a spirited concert, vibrant village party, or exultant parade, emphasizing the uplifting nature of these communal events. With its impactful message and impeccably designed pieces, Bottega Veneta’s show has once again proven to be the standout moment of Milan Fashion Week, capturing hearts for the second consecutive season.
