Bottega Veneta Strengthens Creative Team with Addition of Ilaria Icardi

Bottega Veneta is strengthening its creative team with the rumored addition of Ilaria Icardi, a highly experienced professional in the luxury industry. It is reported that Icardi has been appointed as the ready-to-wear design director for the Italian Kering-owned label, bringing over 25 years of expertise to the position. While Bottega Veneta has not made an official statement regarding this news, it has been reported by renowned American magazine, WWD.

Born and raised in Valenza, a renowned jewelry district in northern Italy, Icardi has been immersed in the industry from a young age. Her father, Umberto Icardi, founded the Emmeti jewelry company in the 1960s, catering to esteemed clients such as Tiffany and Co. and Cartier. However, Icardi decided to pursue a career in women’s ready-to-wear fashion.

In the 1990s, Icardi began her fashion journey at Etro, where she focused on materials research. She then went on to develop Hugo Boss’ first women’s ready-to-wear line. In 2001, she moved to Paris and joined Yves Saint Laurent, working under the leadership of Tom Ford. Icardi remained in her position when Stefano Pilati took over as creative director. During her time in Paris, she crossed paths with Daniel Lee, the former artistic director of Bottega Veneta. It is worth noting that the current creative director of Bottega Veneta, Matthieu Blazy, also has a background at Celine.

After spending a decade in Paris, Icardi relocated to London and joined Celine as the design director. She collaborated closely with then-creative director Phoebe Philo during her time there. Five years later, Icardi moved to Victoria Beckham, where she currently holds the position of design director across all categories. Alongside her work in the industry, Icardi also pursued her family business by launching her own jewelry brand, Ilaria Icardi, in late 2020, together with her brother, Lorenzo, who is an expert in gemology.

With Icardi’s extensive experience and expertise in the luxury industry, her addition to Bottega Veneta’s creative team is expected to bring fresh ideas and innovation to the brand. As Bottega Veneta continues its evolution under Matthieu Blazy’s direction, it will be fascinating to witness how Icardi’s contributions shape the future of the label’s ready-to-wear collections. Although the brand has not officially confirmed Icardi’s appointment, her impressive background and reputation make her a valuable asset to the team.
