BMW is expanding its eDrive system to the United Kingdom, aiming to promote the switch to electric vehicles. The eDrive system, introduced last year, is now standard in BMW’s hybrid models and automatically switches to electric mode when there is sufficient battery charge in dense urban areas. Implementation of eDrive Zones, where certain areas are designated for electric driving, has begun in central London and will later be introduced in Birmingham. This program is already established in six other countries, including the Netherlands and Germany. To incentivize electric driving, BMW is also implementing a rewards system where drivers earn points for each kilometer driven in electric mode, which can be exchanged for free charging. The expansion of BMW’s eDrive system and the introduction of eDrive Zones in the UK signify important steps towards promoting the adoption of electric mobility and reducing fuel consumption.
