Bloomingdale’s Launches New Retail Concept: Bloomie’s

Bloomingdale’s is embarking on an exciting new venture with the launch of its retail concept, “Bloomie’s.” This innovative store will offer a reduced footprint compared to its traditional counterparts and aims to provide customers with a curated and convenient shopping experience. The first Bloomie’s location is set to open in Fairfax, Virginia at the Mosaic District shopping center on August 26.

Covering approximately 22,000 square feet, Bloomie’s will be a departure from the sprawling full-size Bloomingdale’s stores. The concept’s name, “Bloomie’s,” is an endearing nickname given to the brand by its dedicated fans. The store will incorporate everything shoppers love about Bloomingdale’s while offering a unique twist.

Bloomie’s will serve as a style and service destination, catering to both men and women with its fashion and beauty offerings. To keep things fresh and exciting, the store’s product assortment will rotate regularly throughout the week. This ensures that customers always have something new to discover during their visits.

In addition to a carefully curated selection of merchandise, Bloomie’s will introduce new tech-enabled features to enhance the shopping experience. Customers will have access to a drop box for returns, stylist appointments, alteration and personalization services, and even a restaurant experience provided by the popular DC area chain, Colada Shop. Shoppers can indulge in coffee, cocktails, and Cuban snacks, making their visit to Bloomie’s a truly enjoyable experience.

Bloomingdale’s decision to launch Bloomie’s aligns with a growing trend among department stores. As customer needs and preferences evolve, retailers are experimenting with smaller retail footprints. Nordstrom, for example, introduced its Nordstrom Local services hubs in 2017, while Macy’s, the parent company of Bloomingdale’s, has previously debuted curated Market by Macy’s locations.

Currently, Macy’s operates 33 Bloomingdale’s stores and 21 Bloomingdale’s outlet stores. In the first quarter of 2021, the retail group reported net sales of $4.7 million. Macy’s anticipates revenue between $21.73 billion and $22.23 billion for the year. While further Bloomie’s locations are planned, Macy’s has yet to disclose specific details regarding dates and locations.

The introduction of the Bloomie’s concept underscores Bloomingdale’s commitment to adapting to changing consumer preferences and creating exceptional shopping experiences for its loyal customers. With its highly curated selection, convenient services, and unique features, Bloomie’s aims to capture the hearts of shoppers looking for something different. Stay tuned for future Bloomie’s openings as Bloomingdale’s continues to redefine the retail landscape.
