According to a recent study conducted by online retailer Jewellerybox, Billie Eilish and Harry Styles have been crowned as the “world’s most influential style icons.” The study delved into Google search data surrounding terms such as ‘fashion’, ‘outfits’ and ‘style’, revealing some fascinating insights. Eilish emerged as a frontrunner with an astounding 949,300 searches in the last 12 months alone. Her searches for outfits, style, and fashion reached impressive numbers of 602,500, 259,200, and 87,600 respectively. On the other hand, Styles’ combined searches totalled 789,100, solidifying his influence in the style realm.

Eilish soared ahead of the competition, leaving the second-placed female celebrity, Ariana Grande, in her wake with 674,000 searches. Taylor Swift closely followed with 627,600 searches, showcasing the powerhouses in the music industry. Lady Gaga secured the fourth spot with 377,700 searches, while the Jenner sisters, Kendall and Kylie, captured the attention with 371,100 and 313,700 searches respectively. Rihanna and Kim Kardashian further solidified their impact on style choices among women, with 298,800 and 249,200 searches each. Selena Gomez and the timeless Cher rounded up the top ten with 185,200 and 136,250 searches, underlining the diverse mix of influence in the fashion world.

The results of the study highlight the pivotal role that music stars play in shaping trends and driving consumer choices. Designers and streetwear brands strategically align themselves with these influencers to showcase their products, recognizing the immense impact it can have on their audience. Notably, Harry Styles led the pack among influential male celebrities, closely followed by the likes of Cam Newton and Kanye West, who each garnered a significant number of searches.

It’s worth noting that while seasoned veterans like Cher and Elton John continue to hold sway in the fashion landscape, the study predominantly features rising young stars. The inclusion of sports stars such as Newton and Beckham alongside musicians underscores the diverse avenues through which style influence is exerted. Undoubtedly, the study reinforces the symbiotic relationship between music and fashion, showcasing the intertwined nature of these creative realms.
