Bergdorf Goodman, the iconic luxury retailer based in New York City, is taking a significant step towards sustainability with the launch of its new program, ‘Conscious Closet.’ This innovative initiative is designed to extend the lifespan of customers’ luxury goods, promoting a more responsible and environmentally friendly approach to fashion.

The program begins with a personalized consultation with a Bergdorf Goodman stylist, who will carefully evaluate each garment to determine if it requires editing, repairing, altering, or if it can be resold. This individualized approach ensures that customers receive tailored recommendations for their cherished items.

To deliver a seamless experience, Bergdorf Goodman will leverage its extensive network of strategic partners and in-house services. One of its long-standing partners, Santana Leather Care, will provide comprehensive restoration services for leather items, including resoling, stretching, re-dyeing, and re-finishing. They also offer services like cleaning and replacing linings and hardware.

Additionally, the retailer will provide access to its on-site atelier for any tailoring or restyling needs. This partnership will enable customers to breathe new life into their existing pieces, ensuring that they remain stylish and relevant.

In a further effort to promote circularity, Bergdorf Goodman has teamed up with leading resale platform ‘Fashionphile.’ This collaboration will allow customers to easily sell their unwanted luxury items while ensuring that they find new homes with appreciative owners.

Furthermore, the retailer has joined forces with Give Back Box to simplify the process of donating unwanted items to local charities. This initiative aligns with Bergdorf Goodman’s commitment to ethical and sustainable products, known as Conscious Curation, and offers customers an easy and impactful way to give back to their communities.

She described it as an integrated set of service offerings that combine the retailer’s dedication to circularity with its unparalleled client experience. Xides believes that this unique and innovative program will be an invaluable addition to the services offered to Bergdorf Goodman customers.

Conscious Closet perfectly aligns with the Neiman Marcus Group’s (NMG) environmental, social, governance (ESG) strategy. NMG has made a commitment to extending the useful life of one million luxury items through circular services by 2025. By launching this program, Bergdorf Goodman is contributing to this larger goal and demonstrating its dedication to sustainability.
