Bentley Motors and The Macallan Release Whiskey ‘The Macallan Horizon’

In a partnership that was announced last year, Bentley Motors and The Macallan have revealed the first fruit of their collaboration: a whiskey called “The Macallan Horizon.” This new release aims to merge design and sustainability, aligning with Bentley Motors’ dedication to eco-friendly initiatives, such as electrification and carbon neutrality. This joint project between the two renowned brands symbolizes their shared commitment to green practices.

While the announcement of their long-term partnership was made in July 2021, their inaugural collaboration came to life recently in the form of a prototype whiskey bottle called “The Macallan Horizon.” The design features a glass container encased in a brown 3D twisted frame, creating a stunning contrast against the brown/orange hue of the single malt whiskey. This aesthetic choice aligns with The Macallan’s eco-conscious direction.

“The Macallan Horizon” was developed based on The Macallan’s six core principles, which serve as the foundation for its products and narratives: the estate, the stills, the oak casks, the sherry wine, the natural color, and the craftsmanship. To embody these pillars, six sustainable materials were utilized in the creation of this whiskey bottle: recycled copper from The Macallan’s retired stills, recycled aluminum from Bentley Motors’ factory in England, recycled wood sourced from both brands’ internal stocks, and low-carbon leather.

Jaume Ferras, the Global Creative Director of The Macallan, describes this partnership’s creation as a “beautiful object” that highlights elements of sustainability. His comments capture the essence of the collaboration between the whiskey brand and the automaker. “The Macallan Horizon” is expected to be released as a limited edition starting in the summer of 2023.

“The Macallan Horizon” serves as a prime example of the diversification efforts seen in the luxury automotive industry. Bolstered by Bentley Motors’ strong financial performance in the first half of the year, which saw a remarkable 124% increase in operating profit, this whiskey embodies the gastronomic expansion pursued by luxury car brands. Another recent instance of this trend is Bugatti’s collaboration with Champagne Carbon, generating significant attention with the launch of its third collection edition.
