Bentley Invests £3 Million in 3D Printing Technology

Bentley, the luxury automaker, has announced a major investment of £3 million in 3D printing technology to optimize its manufacturing processes. The company aims to enhance the production of parts and tools at its British manufacturing facility, the Crewe plant. This investment will double Bentley’s additive manufacturing capacity and further strengthen its position as a center for technology and digital innovation.

The existing 3D printing capabilities at Bentley’s facility have already proven successful, producing 15,000 parts using over 25 different materials in 2021 alone. The focus of this investment is to improve efficiency and reduce costs and complexity across various operations. Peter Bosch, a member of Bentley Motors’ board of directors, emphasizes the advantages of this project in terms of optimizing processes and enhancing overall performance.

In addition to revolutionizing Bentley’s supply chain, this initiative will greatly enhance the customization options available to customers. The optimization of the 3D printing system will provide more personalized choices within the vehicles, allowing customers to create bespoke designs and features.

Furthermore, Bentley’s investment in 3D printing aligns perfectly with its sustainable strategy, known as Beyond100. By utilizing this advanced manufacturing technique, Bentley aims to achieve a more precise production process, reduce waste, and cut transportation costs. This commitment to sustainability positions Bentley as an industry leader in innovation and engineering.

The investment in 3D printing technology also reinforces Bentley’s position as a luxury automaker and showcases its dedication to embracing technological advancements. With this investment, Bentley aims to enhance its production processes, improve customization options for customers, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
