Bedrock Manufacturing Company (BMC), the parent company of renowned brands Shinola and Filson, has recently named Awenate Cobbina as its new CEO, effective starting January 1, 2022. This appointment signifies a significant expansion of Cobbina’s current role within the company. Since April of this year, he has been a board member and has been responsible for overseeing investments and philanthropic activities for BMC’s largest investor, Bedrock Group LP. With his promotion to CEO, Cobbina will now be entrusted with leading the day-to-day operations of BMC and identifying new business opportunities for both Shinola and Filson, both of which are well-positioned for growth.
BMC was founded in Texas in 2005 by Tom Kartsotis, who is also the founder of Fossil. Kartsotis will remain actively involved in the company and will work closely with Cobbina and the rest of the leadership team to shape the future direction of BMC. Cobbina brings a wealth of diverse experience to his new role. Prior to joining Bedrock Group LP, he served as the director of operations on the executive leadership team for the Biden-Harris transition. Additionally, he has held executive positions at Pistons Sport & Entertainment and the Detroit Pistons, where he played a significant role in facilitating the team’s relocation from Auburn Hills to Detroit in 2017. During his time in the Obama White House, Cobbina served in several political and advisory capacities.
Furthermore, in addition to his new role at BMC, Cobbina currently holds the position of chairman of the executive committee for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Kartsotis lauds Cobbina’s capabilities and believes that his appointment will greatly contribute to optimizing the investments that have been made by the company over time. The recent hiring of Michele Santana as BMC’s new CFO in October further strengthens the management team of the company.
