Baume & Mercier appoints David Chaumet as CEO

Baume & Mercier, a prestigious Swiss watch-making company owned by the Richemont group, has recently announced the appointment of David Chaumet as its newest CEO. This development comes as a succession to Geoffroy Lefebvre, who vacated the role after a brief tenure of less than a year. Lefebvre had taken over from Alain Zimmermann in June 2018.

Having been established in Geneva in 1830, Baume & Mercier has been making strategic moves to revitalize its presence in the market. In recent years, the brand has aimed to cater to a broader audience by focusing on more accessible luxury watches. Despite these efforts, the company has been facing intensified competition in the industry.

One significant challenge for Baume & Mercier is the introduction of Baume, a new line of affordable watches by the Richemont group aimed at appealing to millennial consumers. This initiative has stirred some confusion due to the similarity in brand names, along with the appointment of Marie Chassot, the former Product Development Director at Baume & Mercier, to helm the new brand.

Assuming his new role in early April, David Chaumet brings to the table 15 years of expertise in the watch industry. Prior to his appointment at Baume & Mercier, Chaumet held various positions at Roger Dubuis, another watch brand under Richemont. His background includes serving as the senior managing director for the Asia Pacific region, with a specialization in watch-making for Hong Kong and Macao.

Beginning his career at Total, where he spent over six years as a brand manager, Chaumet transitioned to the watch industry in 2004 when he joined The Watches Connection (TWC) Group as the director of operations. His journey then led him to Roger Dubuis in 2008, where he continued to excel in his roles.

With Chaumet now at its helm, Baume & Mercier is gearing up for a promising new era under his leadership. His wealth of experience and industry knowledge place him in an excellent position to steer the company towards success in a rapidly evolving market. The brand is optimistic about the future and looks forward to the growth opportunities that lie ahead with Chaumet as the CEO.
