Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week showcases cosmopolitan style with renowned brands

Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week (BBFW) returned with a bang, despite the rain, as it showcased the cosmopolitan style of well-known brands like Viktor&Rolf and Marchesa. The event demonstrated its ability to hold a haut couture reunion despite unexpected weather challenges, thanks to the flexibility and adaptability acquired during the pandemic.

The fashion-packed day began with shows from Spanish brands Isabel Sanchís, Yolancris, and Jesús Peiró. However, the highlight of the day was the presentation of the second collaboration between American brand Marchesa and bridalwear giant Pronovias. Additionally, the special guest and protagonist of Barcelona Bridal Night, Dutch haute couture label Viktor&Rolf, also wowed the audience.

Originally planned to take place at the Xavier Corberó Center for Research and Artistic Activities, Viktor&Rolf’s bridal collection had to undergo a venue change just 24 hours before its first show. Nevertheless, this sudden change did not dampen the excitement as the collection took the stage at Fira de Barcelona’s Montjuïc venue. Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, the designers behind Viktor&Rolf, expressed their delight at showcasing their work in Barcelona, a city they consider the “Paris of bridal fashion.” Originally scheduled for 2020 but postponed due to the pandemic, the show finally took place, featuring 37 pristine white ensembles that beautifully captured the designers’ signature style of romance, femininity, rigor, and purity. The audience was treated to a mix of couture dresses and the debut of the Mariage 2023 collection, which included fitted bodices, short veils, and an abundance of handmade organza flowers. The brand also made a point to work with a new responsible material derived from plants and emphasized its inclusive perspective, welcoming customers of all types.

Marchesa, renowned for its bridal collections, presented its second collaboration with Pronovias during its visit to Barcelona. Co-founder Georgina Chapman expressed the goal of celebrating love after the challenges faced during the pandemic. The collaboration with Pronovias allowed brides to express their personal style, ensuring inclusivity for all women. The collection featured 25 light and romantic dresses that brought to life some of Marchesa’s iconic designs. These dresses will be available in a wide range of sizes and at an affordable premium price.

The event also showcased shows from Jesús Peiró, a Spanish company with three decades of experience that drew inspiration from a floral spring, and Isabel Sanchís, a Valencian brand renowned for its artisanal couture savoir-faire. Yolancris, founded by sisters Yolanda and Cristina Pérez, presented its ‘She’ collection, embracing the brand’s bohemian and rock aesthetic, catering to the “anti-brides.”

Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week is set to continue with a total of 34 fashion shows, featuring brands like Nicole Milano, Sophie et Voilà, Cymbelline, and Carlo Pignatelli. The trade fair will bring together 300 brands, including international ones, from 25 different countries.

Despite the last-minute changes and unpredictable weather, Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week successfully showcased the cosmopolitan flair and creativity of renowned designers. The event proved that, with adaptability and resilience, the bridal fashion industry can not only survive but thrive even in challenging times.
