This collaboration aims to capitalize on the growing trend of virtual try-on, which has become increasingly popular during the Covid-19 crisis. With virtual try-on, customers can experience a more accurate representation of the products they are interested in, resulting in fewer product returns due to sizing issues.
Bods, a Los Angeles-based company founded in 2021 by Christine Marzano, specializes in personalized 3D avatar modeling. Their technology creates avatars based on photorealism, providing users with an accurate morphological representation. Within a year of its launch, Bods raised $5.6 million in funding, showcasing the success and demand for their personalized avatar modeling.
Now, Balmain has introduced the “3D FITTING” feature on its website. This feature allows users to create their own customized avatar by either uploading a photo or providing measurements and skin tone information. The avatars, created using the 3D design tool Unreal Engine, accurately depict the user’s body shape, on which Balmain’s creations can be digitally placed. The feature also includes an “adjustment view” that utilizes a color system to represent cutting details more effectively.
Currently, Balmain has digitized seven clothing models, a pair of boots, and two handbags – the B-Buzz 19 and 23 – in different finishes. However, the brand plans to gradually extend this process to other products in the future.
This move represents another step in Balmain’s e-retail strategy. The brand has previously utilized fitting technologies on its website, including the “Fit Predictor” decision support tool and an augmented reality solution for sneakers. Balmain has been actively working to enhance the customer experience and expand its online retail presence. This collaboration with Bods aligns with their commitment to leveraging technology to provide a more interactive and accurate shopping experience for their customers.
