Australian Fashion Week 2024 set to showcase creativity and support Australian designers

Australian Fashion Week 2024 is scheduled to take place in Sydney from May 13 to May 17, as announced by IMG on Monday. This highly anticipated event attracts a large number of attendees and participants from various sectors within the fashion industry, including international buyers, media, consumers, and industry professionals.

IMG, in partnership with major sponsor Destination NSW, aims to provide extensive support to designers during the upcoming edition. This support includes assistance with runway shows, content creation, programming, special events, and more. Additionally, the week will feature a consumer offering, with tickets available for select runway shows and programming starting in January 2024.

In an effort to further bolster the fashion industry, IMG has announced that designer participation fees will be waived for Australian Fashion Week in 2024. This decision was made possible through the backing of Destination NSW and the New South Wales government. While the specific details regarding designers and the schedule have not been disclosed yet, applications are now open for Next Gen, a program for emerging designers presented by DHL. Next Gen, which has been a part of Australian Fashion Week since 1996, offers a prize valued at over AU$100,000. This includes runway show production, a content package featuring runway photography and livestream, as well as international shipping credits provided by DHL.

In addition to the main event, IMG has also announced the next Australian Fashion Laureate, an annual awards ceremony that recognizes excellence in Australian design, sustainability, and leadership within the fashion industry. The ceremony, scheduled for November 2024, will honor the achievements of esteemed designers like Carla Zampatti, Akira Isogawa, Collette Dinnigan, Dion Lee, and Toni Maticevski.

Natalie Xenita, the vice president-managing director of IMG fashion events and properties Asia-Pacific, expressed her excitement about the upcoming fashion events in Australia. She emphasized that Australian Fashion Week in Sydney is globally recognized as a source of inspiration and innovation. Xenita also highlighted the importance of connecting fashion weeks worldwide and IMG’s dedication to supporting the industry and showcasing talent on a global stage. She further emphasized the partnership with Destination NSW, which will create more opportunities for Australian designers to display their creativity and stimulate growth in the country’s creative and retail industries.

With these plans in motion, Australian Fashion Week 2024 is poised to provide a significant platform for emerging and established Australian designers to showcase their creativity and contribute to the growth of the fashion industry both within Australia and on a global scale.
