Arts Thread and Gucci Announce Winners of Global Design Graduate Show 2023

Arts Thread and Gucci recently announced the winners of this year’s Global Design Graduate Show 2023, a highly anticipated event in the art and design world. The competition saw a remarkable number of over 5,823 students from around the globe participating in different categories, including Fashion/Accessories/Textiles, Fine Art/Photography/Craft, Digital/Visual Communication/Film, and Product Design/Architecture/Interiors. The quality of submissions exceeded expectations, impressing industry professionals and surpassing previous years’ entries.

The selection process involved 175 industry judges, who meticulously reviewed each submission alongside a public online vote. With more than 211,742 fans of the students’ work participating in the vote, the winners were determined by a combination of expert opinions and public preference.

In the Fashion/Accessories/Textiles category, the Street/Casual segment had two joint winners: Lily Wilson from Manchester Metropolitan University and Rebecca Wong from Kingston School of Art. The Formal/Couture category was won by Zining Ye from America’s Fashion Institute of Technology FIT. In Sustainable Fashion/Textiles, Lilach Porges from FIT claimed the top spot, while Anne Elori Lespade from the Institut Français de la Mode IFM was honored in the Accessories category.

Turning to the Textiles category, Emilie Palle Holm from The Swedish School of Textiles, University of Borås, emerged victorious in the Knit/Weave segment, while Xiaorui Shi from Glasgow School of Art triumphed in Print/Embroidery. In the Fashion Communication category, Carolina Trinker from Parsons School of Design in the US secured the prize.

Among the winners of the public vote in the Fashion/Accessories/Textiles category was Jeongho Hwang from Istituto Marangoni Milan, highlighting the popularity and appeal of their work.

All the winners will have an incredible opportunity to showcase their talent in a virtual gallery hosted by Google Arts & Culture. This collaboration not only provides a platform for their work to reach a wider audience but also opens doors for potential independent ventures and employment within the creative industries.

Arts Thread is particularly excited about the impact of this initiative. Over the past four years, numerous graduates have secured employment or successfully launched their own brands through this platform, making it the largest online showcase of graduating artists and designers worldwide. The organization is committed to supporting emerging talent and continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the art and design industry.

Looking ahead, the Global Design Graduate Show will return in 2024, giving an opportunity for students graduating in the 2023-2024 academic year to showcase their skills and creativity on an international stage. It promises to be a highly anticipated event that will once again celebrate the next generation of talented artists and designers.
