Armani Privé Spring 2019 Collection Inspired by Il Conformista

The latest haute couture collection by Giorgio Armani, Armani Privé Spring 2019, transported fashion enthusiasts back to the glamorous 1930s and the iconic era of Art Deco. Drawing inspiration from the award-winning 1970 film, Il Conformista, directed by the legendary Bernardo Bertolucci, the collection exuded a sense of decadence and betrayal reminiscent of Fascist Italy.

The Armani Privé Spring 2019 show was a lavish affair held in the elegant surroundings of the Hôtel d’Evreux in Place Vendôme. The collection featured a stunning array of micro sequins and macro paillettes, intricately combined to create chic pantsuits, pencil skirts, and boleros. Showstopping evening dresses adorned with faded geometrical Chinoiserie patterns and elaborate embroidery dazzled on the runway, while models sported cloche hats and beaded skullcaps, evoking the film’s visually striking dance sequences.

Lacquer played a prominent role in this collection, paying homage to the Art Deco aesthetic of the time period depicted in Il Conformista. Additionally, the show unveiled Armani’s latest fragrance, Lacquer, adding an extra touch of luxury to the overall presentation. Giorgio Armani, the visionary behind the brand, received a rousing applause as he took his bow at the end of the show, surrounded by celebrities like Céline Dion, Juliette Binoche, Uma Thurman, and Maya Hawke.

Armani Privé’s Il Conformista couture collection seamlessly blended nostalgia with modern elegance, illustrating Giorgio Armani’s unparalleled attention to detail and innovative approach to haute couture. With this collection, Armani once again affirmed his status as a master of the craft, showcasing his ability to beautifully harmonize elements of film, fashion, and history on the runway.
