ANDAM 30th Edition: Martin Margiela Joins Jury for Emerging Designer Prize

ANDAM, the prestigious French national association dedicated to promoting the development of arts and fashion, has made a landmark announcement for its 30th edition of the emerging designer prize. The association revealed that Martin Margiela, the iconic designer and the first recipient of this esteemed award in 1989, will now serve as part of the jury. Margiela’s return to the competition as a judge signals a full circle moment, as he now has the opportunity to discover and support the next generation of fashion talents.

Nathalie Dufour, the visionary founder and director of the competition, expressed her deep appreciation for Margiela’s participation. She emphasized the value of his generous gesture in sharing his vast experience and insights with up-and-coming designers. Margiela’s involvement in the selection process and final interviews with the contestants in June will undoubtedly add a unique and invaluable perspective to the prize, as his unparalleled expertise and creativity continue to inspire the fashion world.

In a statement, Margiela acknowledged the pivotal role that ANDAM played in launching his own career, providing crucial financial support that allowed him to establish his eponymous label and make a mark in the haute couture world. Notably, Renzo Rosso, the president of OTB – the fashion group that acquired Maison Martin Margiela, will serve as the mentor to this year’s winner, continuing his longstanding support of emerging talent.

Since its inception in 1989, ANDAM has evolved into a highly influential platform, garnering support from renowned sponsors such as Chanel, Chloé, Hermès, LVMH, and now, Lacoste joins as a sponsor for the first time this year. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the prize, ANDAM will partner with Galeries Lafayette on a series of projects, including exhibitions featuring past winners and their mentors.

The 2019 ANDAM competition will award prizes in four categories – the grand prize, creative label prize, fashion accessories prize, and innovation prize – with a total fund of €430,000 dedicated to supporting and nurturing emerging talents in the fashion industry. Winners will also benefit from mentorship programs offered by the sponsors, ensuring that they receive guidance and support as they navigate their careers in the dynamic world of fashion.
