Amsterdam Fashion Week Undergoes Major Transformation

Amsterdam Fashion Week is undergoing a major transformation this year, with new ownership and direction bringing a fresh vibe to the event. Stylist Danie Bles is taking the reins, leading the charge for a revamped fashion week experience. The event will kick off on Thursday, September 6 at the picturesque Museumplein in Amsterdam, promising three days of exciting shows and activities.

The schedule is jam-packed with must-see events, starting with Dutch designer David Laport opening the show on Thursday night. Friday will showcase the talents of graduates from Dutch fashion and art schools in the Lichting 2018 collections. On Saturday, department store Hudson’s Bay will hit the runway, followed by shows from designers Zoe Karssen and popular supermarket chain Lidl on Sunday.

One of the exciting new features of this year’s Amsterdam Fashion Week is the ‘See Now, Buy Now’ formula, allowing viewers to purchase showcased collections instantly during the livestream. While some residents initially expressed concerns about the event’s venue at Museumplein, the organizers have introduced an off-schedule program to make the event more inclusive.

The off-schedule program includes activities such as a public pop-up cinema streaming the shows live, fashion talks, workshops, and fashion tours in collaboration with the iconic Rijksmuseum. This new approach aims to engage a wider audience and bring fashion closer to the people of Amsterdam.

Amsterdam Fashion Week has come a long way since its inception in 2004, with various changes in ownership and direction. The latest acquisition by Danie Bles signals a new chapter for the event, with a focus on establishing fashion week as a crucial industry event that is deeply ingrained in the city’s cultural landscape.

With the necessary permit secured just a week before the event, the anticipation and excitement surrounding this year’s Amsterdam Fashion Week are palpable. Through innovative changes and strategic initiatives, the event is poised to reinvigorate the fashion industry and community, demonstrating that change can be both stylish and transformative.
