Alexandre Mattiussi Directs Isabelle Adjani’s Music Video

Alexandre Mattiussi, the founder of the AMI Paris brand, has expanded his creative repertoire by venturing into filmmaking. At the age of 43, the renowned stylist has taken on the role of director for Isabelle Adjani’s latest music video, titled “Où tu ne M’attendais pas” (Where You Didn’t Expect Me). With a lifelong passion for cinema, Mattiussi has embraced this opportunity to express his artistic vision in a new medium.

The music video showcases a contemplative and introspective Isabelle Adjani, with scenes captured in timeless black and white, which resonates with AMI’s distinct monochromatic aesthetic. Interestingly, the video serves as a tribute to the late singer Christophe, who had collaborated with Adjani on her music endeavors since 2004. In an interview with Vogue, Mattiussi delves into his creative process, explaining that he was deeply moved by the song ‘Où tu ne M’attendais pas’ and conceived the idea of featuring Adrien Dantou’s dance performance as a representation of Christophe’s presence. The choice of the sea as the setting is a nod to Christophe’s passing in Brest, and the black-and-white cinema screen serves to immortalize him.

This collaboration between Alexandre Mattiussi and Isabelle Adjani is not their first. After a fortuitous encounter, the stylist invited the acclaimed actress to grace the runway for his Autumn-Winter 2022-2023 collection. Adjani also posed for the campaign of the same collection, further solidifying their artistic connection.

The fashion industry has long been drawn to the world of cinema, frequently establishing creative crossroads between the two realms. An example of this can be seen in the January 2023 Saint Laurent campaign, which featured notable figures from the film industry such as Abel Ferrara, Jim Jarmusch, and David Cronenberg. Additionally, the luxury house recently announced its foray into film production with “Strange Way of Life,” a project helmed by renowned director Pedro Almodóvar.
